Asquino Science Center, named after the college's 30-year president who retired in 2017, opened in 2016. The $40-million project included a renovation of 17,000 square feet of the Academic Center. Worcester Academy re- opened Walker Hall, the oldest academic building on campus, in the fall of 2014 after a $16-million renovation as the school's new humanities and arts center. The building, built in 1890, was given all new lighting, wiring, plumbing, heating and cooling systems, and replacement of 160 win - dows. The four-story, 36,000-square-foot build- ing opened in 2016 with a rooftop solar array supply- ing up to 50 percent of the building's energy needs. The building includes dedi- cated meeting space for alumni, as well as for undergraduates, and is part of Clark's efforts to revitalize its stretch of Main Street. Worcester State opened its Wellness Center in the fall of 2016, with workout bikes and ellipticals designed to generate elec - tricity instead of consum- ing it. Pictured is WSU President Barry Maloney. This building, located just off the Massachusetts Turnpike, opened in 2016 with a 500-kilowatt solar array over the parking lot and about a 400-kilowatt rooftop system. South- facing windows are tinted to keep the space from heating up. Porous pavement allows rainwater runoff to replenish the groundwater supply.
