Our country's multicultural population is at a disproportionately high risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke. Closing this disparity gap is critical. Our goal is to impact the health of 20 Million multicultural Americans by 2020. Multicultural Health is Why of the U.S. population is multicultural, by 2050 54% will be. Today 37% Economic Stability 10 MILLION households spend 50% of their income on housing. Faced with paying rent or making healthy food, transportation or healthcare decisions; healthy choices are unattainable. Biggest contributor to adverse health outcomes is poverty. Access to Healthcare 90 MILLION are not able to obtain basic health services and information. What impacts the disparity gap? Social Determinants of Health How can we build a culture of health? Empower People and Organizations Traditions & Culture Traditions and culture often guide individual's choices. AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN Have the highest rates of being overweight and obese in the U.S. About 80% are overweight or obese. 80% of girls are more likely to be overweight than white girls. 70% more likely to be obese than white women. Affordable Housing • Helping to create healthy building standards • Providing educational materials • Supporting advocacy efforts By 2020 over 1 MILLION will be aided by updated building standards. By empowering people and organizations to make the healthy choice the default choice. Neighborhood 19 MILLION face unstable housing situations. When shelter is unstable, health concerns often take a lower priority. 26 MILLION are without access to affordable, healthy food. Lack of access to healthy food, transportation, safe walking & biking paths and healthcare must be addressed through public works and policy.
