6 Worcester Business Journal | August 7, 2017 | wbjournal.com B R I E F S Union files complaint against 145 Front St. The Worcester carpenters union said it has filed a National Labor Relations Board complaint against a subcontractor on the downtown apartment project 145 Front St. after a carpenter working was allegedly fired for trying to improve con- ditions for employees at the project. The complaint alleges the former employee of New Jersey contractor P&B Partitions had spoken with union orga- nizers about safety and wage violations, which lead to his firing, said the New England Regional Council of Carpenters chapter for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Ilene Jabolonski, senior vice president of marketing for 145 Front St. developer Roseland Residential Trust, said the company expects its contractors to pay employees fairly. The project will include 365 apartments and retail space when it opens this year. The $18-million facility will be named the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center under a 10-year naming rights deal announced by the bank and the Worcester Railers HC. The Railers will use the facility as its practice rink, and Worcester State University, Becker College, Worcester Academy, the Junior Railers and Junior Crusaders youth hockey programs will play there. POW! WOW! Worcester to add 29 more murals A second POW! WOW! Worcester art festival starting at the end of the month will add at least 29 more murals throughout the city. Among them will be the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center under construction in the Canal District. Elm Park Community School will have 14 walls transformed into murals, along with Worcester Arts Magnet, Rice Square and Canterbury Street Magnet Computer-Based schools.
