18 Hartford Business Journal • May 1, 2017 www.HartfordBusiness.com The Greater Hartford Arts Council has announced the recipients of its 2017 "Arts + Wellness" grants. The grants, sup- ported by a $10,000 contribution from Unit- edHealthcare, were given to four local arts organizations to produce programs that use creativity to enrich the lives and enhance the health and well-being of adults with physical disabilities and their families. The recipients include: Charter Oak Cul- tural Center; Easter Seals' Camp Hemlocks; Farmington Valley Arts Center; and Harc Inc. Pictured above (from left) are: Katie Hanley, Oak Hill Centers; Elizabeth Winsor, UnitedHealthcare; Susan Mazar, Charter Oak Cultural Center; Karin Dionne, Harc; and Cathy Malloy, CEO, Greater Hartford Arts Council. • • • The Hartford has donated $3 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to create 30 new college and career centers across the U.S., including one this year at a local club in the city of Hartford. The Hartford will serve as the founding partner of the college and career cen- ters, which will provide teen Boys & Girls Club members with new ways to explore career paths to help prepare them for their next step after high school. Besides the college and career center in Hartford, nine others are launching this year in New Jersey, Missouri, Wisconsin, Cali- fornia, Texas, Florida and Tennessee, the insurer said. The partnership also allows Boys & Girls Clubs of America to enhance its "Career Launch" digital resources, reaching 70,000 teens a year. The Hartford said its employees will have an opportunity to become involved at their local Boys & Girls Club, adding to the history of volunteerism that the company encourages year-round. The gift is not part of The Hartford's share of a $50 million pledge it and two other insurers have made to bail out the cash-strapped city of Hartford. • • • Girls on the Run Greater Hartford will hold its annual 5K run in May, with Cigna as the $15,000 presenting sponsor and event host. Girls on the Run is a physical activity- based youth development program for girls grades three through six. Program partici- pants will participate in community service while preparing to complete a 5K.
