Volunteers of America Northern New England in Brunswick was awarded $100,000 from TD Charitable Foundation's Housing for Everyone pro- gram in support of its Veterans Housing program: Cabin in the Woods. Clark Insurance in Portland donated a total of $41,500 to 31 nonprofi t orga- nizations as part of its year-end impact contributions. The company focuses its attention on supporting groups that provide food, clothing, shelter, wellness and higher education. Augusta's Key Plaza going to auction A prominent downtown Augusta building, Key Plaza at 286 Water St., is headed to the auction block. e Morning Sentinel reported the auction is slated to take place on Feb. 1. e building's owners, SRA Augusta SPE LLC and four other New Jersey-based LLCs, told the paper they hope to retain the build- ing and extend a lease for state offi ce space there. e building houses hundreds of workers, most of whom work for the state. e Morning Sentinel reported that district court fi lings indicate the building's owners defaulted on a $7.2 million promis- sory note by failing to pay money due on the loan at its maturity. Water Street in Augusta has been the focus of development in recent years, with restaurants, offi ce space and apartments going in. USM growth strong in Lewiston e University of Southern Maine says undergraduate enrollment grew by 4% among campuses in Portland, Gorham and Lewiston. Growth at the Lewiston campus was par- ticularly strong, with undergradu- ate enrollment up 37% in the fall of 2016 compared to the year before, the Sun Journal reported. Glenn Cummings, president of USM, told the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce that USM is strengthening in other ways, too. Its budget is balanced — that com- pares with $16 million in debt two years ago — and philanthropic giv- ing is up, with the USM Foundation surpassing its fall goal of raising $1 million by $500,000.
