Business center bank opens in Ellsworth Franklin Savings Bank, which is based in Farmington, opened an Ellsworth busi- ness center devoted to commercial lend- ing. e offi ce, at 130 Oak St., establishes a Downeast foothold for the savings bank, whose other branches are in central and western Maine. Wood pellet or propane heaters will replace oil- fi lled furnaces at the McKay Farm and Research Station. e college has a goal of eliminating fossil fuel use and to be carbon neutral. College offi cials said the money also will be used to expand access to heated greenhouse space for start-up farmers, to expand food production and to extend the growing season to help boost farm income.
