The company had undertaken an investigation of a possible embezzlement of less than $50,000 from a subsidiary company in March. At that time the company began a forensic investigation to determine the scope and amount of the inappropriate activity that, according to the company, included manipulating certain records in an attempt to conceal the theft. Central Mass. hospitals receive $1M for telemedicine Heywood Hospital and UMass Memorial Medical Center have received nearly $1 million in combined funds as part of a telemedicine pilot being con- ducted by the state. The funding was made by the Massachusetts Health Polic y Commission (HPC) as part of $11.3 million in health care investments. The funding for Heywood (capped at $499,860) and UMass Medical (capped at $496,184) is designed forbehavioral services in populations such as children or those with substance use disorders. According to UMass Medical, the study will be used to connect patients with recovery coaches right at their bedside. Franklin manufacturer fined $11.5K The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has penalized AR Metallizing Ltd., of Franklin, $11,502 for violating air pollution regulations. The fines stem back to an inspection of the paper metallizing factory at 24 National Dr. in December of last year. The inspection found the company failed to obtain an Air Quality Plan Approval prior to installing new equip- ment, according to MassDEP. In addi- tion, the company reportedly exceeded its permitted air emission limits in March and October of that year. The company quickly applied for the necessary permit for the installed equip- ment and brought in a consultant to investigate how to prevent breakdowns. Wachusett Brewery expanding alcoholic seltzer distribution After four months of sales, the makers of Nauti Seltzer are expanding the drink's distribution area west and south based on strong demand in the Northeast. The hard seltzer was launched in April by Wachusett Brewing Co. of Westminster as a new range of products. After a positive reception following the initial Northeast roll-out, the company will now send the locally-made drink to Ohio, Illinois, Georgia, and Florida. The plan from the beginning has been to take Nauti nationwide, according to Ned LaFortune, co-founder and president of Wachusett. The product is distributed under the name Craft Cocktail Company. Unum launching N. England dental coverage through $127M acquisition Unum will be launching its own den- tal coverage offerings throughout the Northeast following the $127-million purchase of a Louisiana insurance firm. The acquisition of H&J Capital, LLC, parent of Starmount Life Insurance Co. and AlwaysCare Benefits has been com- pleted by the Tennessee-based Unum insurance group, which has more than 500 employees in Central Massachusetts and an office in downtown Worcester. Starmount covers more than 940,000 people nationally, manages in-force annualized premium in excess of $180 million and has access to significant national dental and vision networks, according to Unum. Ashland contractor cited $117K over police station project wages Ashland subcontractor On-Time Construction Services, Inc. and its owner Jonatas Vicente De Brito Barcelos have been cited $117,082 in restitution and penalties for intentionally violating the Massachusetts prevailing wage law, Attorney General Maura Healey announced on Aug. 1. The allegations stem from a project at the Acushnet Police Station for which On-Time was a subcontractor. The investigation revealed between March and August of last year, On-Time failed to pay three workers the correct prevailing wage rate, according to the AG's office. One worker was not paid at all until after the investigation started. n
