Bangor steakhouse closes after 22 years e Bugaboo Creek steakhouse in Bangor closed its doors, leav- ing between 35 and 40 employees without work. "Twenty-two years is a long time to stay open for any restaurant," Cody Placencia, the restaurant's general manager, told the Bangor Daily News. Placencia told the BDN that he was told on June 13 by the corporate offices of Bugaboo that the location would close that day. Other sites that have reportedly closed are in Braintree, Mass.; Rochester, N.Y.; Milford, Conn.; Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and Newington, Del. EMHS offers early retirement to curb $3M shortfall In an attempt to avoid a $3 million shortfall in its information sys- tems department, Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems is offering 43 of the department's 300 system- wide employees an early retirement package. Chief Communications Officer Suzanne Spruce told the Bangor Daily News that the vol- untary offer has been extended to departmental employees who are over the age of 55 and have worked for Eastern Maine Healthcare System for at least a decade. Employees who take the package will receive one week of pay for each year of employment in addi- tion to any time off earned and health care benefits for those who are eligible, the BDN reported. UMaine Presque Isle president leaving e president of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Linda Schott, announced that she would be leaving her position at the public university to become president at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore. Schott began her leadership role at UMPI in 2012 after a search that drew 77 appli- cants. Before her UMPI presidency, Schott had been the dean of the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. "With all that we have accomplished together at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, it was a very difficult deci- sion to consider and accept a new posi- tion at a new institution," Schott said in a prepared statement. "Exploring new professional challenges at an institu- tion serving a similar but larger student body and delivering both bachelor's and master's degrees is an opportunity I need to pursue." Schott will begin her role at Southern Oregon University before the start of the 2016-2017 academic year. In partnership with Maine Medical Center in Portland, Tufts University School of Medicine offers a Maine Track for applicants who are interested in a curriculum that offers clinical training experiences in Maine and exposes medical students to the unique aspects of rural practice as well as training in a major tertiary medical center. The United Way of Eastern Maine in Bangor made a $10,000 gift to the Circle of Caring, a social media/fun- draising campaign to assist people struggling with opioid use disorder in eastern Maine. Raye's Mustard in Eastport was fea- tured in a report detailing the state- by-state economic impact of Google. The report noted that the Internet has helped spur growth for the 116-year- old Maine business and that "with online purchases now accounting for about 25% of overall sales, owners Karen and Kevin Raye relaunched their e-commerce website twice, using Google Analytics to figure out what netted the best results."
