8 Doing Business in Connecticut | 2016
T
he list of innovations to come out of
Connecticut goes on and on. Samuel
Colt's first revolver was produced here
as was Eli Whitney's cotton gin. Today, the
innovation continues at companies like jet
engine maker Pratt & Whitney, helicopter
makers Sikorsky and Kaman, as well as Fuel
Cell Energy Inc. But the innovation doesn't
just come out of the state's manufacturing
sector. e state's well established insurance
industry continues to be a leader in the U.S.
and the world. And who can forget that the
now ubiquitous cable sports channel ESPN
was founded here in 1978.
