The Gannett family was recognized at Milford Regional Medical Center's annual fundraising gala Mélange for contributions to the community and hospital. Marlborough Hospital earned an A rating from hospital watchdog The Leapfrog Group, for its commitment to patient safety. Harrington HealthCare System of Southbridge was recognized for receiving the lowest primary C-section rate in Massachusetts -- 14.3 percent – by The Leapfrog Group. The state's average C-section rate is 26.2 percent. Peter Paolantonio, chief clinical officer of Spectrum Health Systems Inc., was awarded the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Behavioral Healthcare. James J. Piette, Susan A. Howard and Edward F. O'Brien of AdCare Hospital in Worcester were recognized for Excellence in Patient Care and Customer Service. Piette and Howard won Eunice Roddy Awards; O'Brien won an Excellence in Customer Service Award. Frank Saba, CEO of Milford Regional Medical Center, and Dismas House of Massachusetts in Worcester have won Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Awards. The award program is in its inaugural year. Reliant Medical Group OBGYN nurse midwives and St. Vincent Hospital's Center for Women and Infants celebrate 25 years of service. Dr. John Harrington of GVNA HealthCare was honored at the agency's annual Executive Leadership Breakfast for his service. He is medical director and staff physician at the Winchendon Health Center — a satellite facility of Heywood Healthcare. Family Heath Center of Worcester has earned National Committee for Quality Assurance Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition, at Level 3, the highest level. The organization's Patient-Centered Medical Home is a model of care that combines teamwork and information technology to improve care, improve patients' experience of care and reduce costs. Dick Fiske Sr. and his Heart to Heart Foundation of North Brookfield was honored by the Children's Smile Coalition at Hanover Theatre in Worcester last month. The group helps with family costs associated with children battling major diseases. Young Hero Award recipients included Allianna Agbanyo, Carly Dillis, Madeline Dolan, Zack Gosselin, Thien Hoang, Sean O'Brien, Dacia Sharp and Michael Wackell. Honorable mentions went to Kenneth Openshaw, Mark Kent and Nicholas Kent. Paul L. Jeffrey, a pharmacy director in UMass Medical School's Commonwealth Medicine division, is the 2015 recipient of the Massachusetts Pharmacists Association Bowl of Hygeia Award. He is clinical associate professor in UMass Medical School's Family Medicine and Community Health department. UMass Memorial-HealthAlliance Hospital of Worcester awarded GALA Awards (Give, Act, Lead, Aspire). The Physician Award went to Dr. Robert A. Babineau of UMass Memorial Managed Care Network; the Community Leader Award to Daniel M. Asquino, president of Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner; and the HealthAlliance Employee Award to Linda Gravelle, a registered nurse at UMass Memorial Hospital's emergency department. The Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) expanded its monthly support-group meeting from Dana- Farber Cancer Institute in Boston to its newest location, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Richard Salmon, PHEN Survivor Network member and Worcester support group leader, said the goal is to help educate black men about prostate health "and work to eliminate the African- American prostate cancer disparity." The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m., at the Ambulatory Care Center Building at 55 N. Lake Ave., in Room AC4248A/B.
