University of Hartford's Entrepreneurial Center | Women's Business Center 5 DRAWING BOARD BOARD ROOM Congratulations to our partners, helping entrepreneurs succeed. Financing for new ideas Technical support for growth For Rebecca Tuttle, grants and a gluten-free lifestyle go together. It sounds unconventional, but Rebecca wouldn't have it any other way. Her celiac diagnosis and the need to make drastic changes were her catalysts for becoming an entrepreneur. This counseling psychologist and grant guru travels nationwide to offer grant and nonprofit sustainability trainings and conference presentations. She also leads awareness information and has appeared on Better Connecticut and on the nationally syndicated The Dr. Oz Show. Rebecca's company, Tuttle Consulting, teaches nonprofits across the United States to find, write, and submit effective grant applications. So far, Tuttle has helped clients raise nearly $2.5 million dollars. "I began to think, what else can I share that might help people?" Rebecca says. As a result of this introspection, Rebecca became the go-to resource for information about food awareness, food allergies, and gluten-free food choices. Prompted to consider how others might benefit from easy-to- understand information about gluten-free living, she decided to write a book. The Story of My Gluten Free Cookbook: No Chicken, No Turkey, No Gluten, Oh My! is a truthful, informative, and humorous recounting of her journey along the road to transformation and discovery. "Once I found the Entrepreneurial Center, I began attending their business classes and used what I learned . . . to further the entrepreneurial goals for Tuttle Consulting." Rebecca got more involved with the center in 2014, when she began teaching grant-writing workshops. "As an entrepreneur," she said, "you don't have to fit into any particular mold. Starting a small business expanded my view of what's possible and the extent of my own potential." Rebecca Tuttle, Owner, Tuttle Consulting, Farmington, Conn. Making Her Own (Gluten-Free) Path to Success "The center provided me with a business foundation that catapulted me to where I am today. The classes were very high caliber. The speakers were very professional and the content rich and applicable. The staff was always eager to help, and I was motivated and energized to take information and apply it. Thanks to the center staff and especially to Milena Erwin for her work and dedication. Here's to another 30 years!" —Jean B.
