Ex-Augusta mayor settles suit against Mattson Former Augusta Mayor William E. Dowling has ended his lawsuit against developer Kevin Mattson and several firms run by Mattson, though details of the settle- ment are not being disclosed. e Kennebec Journal reported that Dowling's lawsuit, which sought $900,000 in back wages, ben- efits and loan repayment from his former employer, was dismissed without costs in Kennebec County Superior Court. Dowling's attor- ney told the newspaper he's "satis- fied with the results." Mattson, who runs Mattson Construction LLC, Hallowell House LLC and other firms, told the newspaper that there was never animosity between the two parties. "is was much more of a claim against companies he had worked for," he added. "I was leader, manager of all these different entities." Jackson Lab gets $835K for research on aging e Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor has received an $835,037 fed- eral grant to support its continuing research on the aging process. U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King said that the award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will support Jackson Lab's Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging. CMHC: Parkview owes $13M, and it needs to pay up Central Maine Healthcare Corp. in Lewiston claims that Brunswick- based Parkview Adventist Medical Center, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month, owes it and its Lewiston hospital affiliate more than $13 million. e Forecaster reported that CMHC and Central Maine Medical Center are fighting Parkview's assertions in court that neither party holds a security interest in the Brunswick hospital's assets, which includes cash collat- eral that has been court-approved. CMHC has provided contracted services to Parkview over several years and once made an unsuccess- ful attempt to take over the hospi- tal in 2013. Parkview said CMHC doesn't hold the security interest because it hadn't been transferred by the Brunswick hospital's board. However, CMHC said its right to the more than $13 million is backed up by "security documents" that are related to Parkview's properties.
