Demolition of Bucksport mill could start this spring American Iron & Metal, the Canadian scrap metal company that purchased the shuttered Verso Corp. paper mill in Bucksport for $60 million in February, told town offi cials that the fi rm hopes to start demolition this spring. e Bangor Daily News reported that Jeff McGlin, AIM's U.S. vice presi- dent for development, told Bucksport offi cials the company plans to submit a demolition permit application to the town by the end of March, with the goal of starting work by early May and completing the demolition by late sum- mer of 2016. Bucksport's town council is expected to consider the request at its April 9 meeting. It's possible some elements of the town's demolition ordi- nance may be waived to facilitate that time schedule, the newspaper reported. AIM plans a March 24 auction to liquidate papermaking equipment, generators, welders, roll grinders, hand tools and some trucks. Rockland development to get 12-year tax break A Rockland developer will receive a 12-year break on his property taxes from the city as a reward for improve- ments he'll be making on a downtown commercial building. e Bangor Daily News reported that Richard Rockwell plans to spend up to $3.35 million making improvements to the four- story Kimball Block building on Main Street he purchased in 2013. In return, the city is granting a 75% tax rebate for the fi rst four years on any additional taxable value resulting from those improvements, which will drop to 50% for the next four years and then to 25% for the fi nal years of the deal.
