Sappi: Skowhegan $100M valuation drop not enough Sappi North America is for- mally seeking a further reduction in the property valuation for its Skowhegan mill, claiming the $100 million valuation decrease the town approved last year was not enough. e Bangor Daily News reported Sappi announced its abatement request on March 9, saying it is "critical to the long-term fi nancial health of the mill." e news- paper reported that an appraisal Sappi commissioned from Duff & Phelps came in at $326 million for its Skowhegan mill and property, which is $238 million lower than the valuation of $564 million that town offi cials cut by $100 million last year. Sappi's appraisal also is $138 million lower than its current $464 million valuation. Italian fi rm to spend $6M on Lewiston plant Italian manufacturer Modula said it plans to spend $6 million on upgrades for a subsidiary's plant in Lewiston — an investment expected to eventually create 70 new jobs. e Sun Journal reported that Modula announced its invest- ment plans for System Logistics' facility in Lewiston in early March. e Lewiston company was known as Diamond Phoenix before it was purchased by System Logistics in 2009 and became its North American arm. e company's Lewiston plant employs 50 people. The effort is focused on increasing quality physical activity for children. The race invites students to collec- tively reach 1 billion miles through participation in school-based walking, jogging and running clubs.
