This is the earliest of Monet's paintings in Hill-Stead's collection, though it is the last Monet that Alfred A. Pope purchased. Below left: The Barnes Wing at The American Clock & Watch Museum in Bristol. It houses the museum's exhibit of tall case clocks that are often referred to by visitors as the "clock forest." Below right: "Grainstacks, White Frost Effect," by Claude Monet (1889), hangs in Hill-Stead's Drawing Room. On a facing wall, in the Ell Room, hangs the second of Monet's grainstack paintings in Hill- Stead's collection, "Grainstacks," in Bright Sunlight (1890).
