Meanwhile, EMC Information Infrastructure — the company's main business unit — saw more modest revenue growth of 1 percent. News of strong growth at VMware comes as an activist investor, Elliott Management Corp., is pushing for EMC to sell VMware as a way to restructure the company, the Wall Street Journal reported. lacK of laB space pushes out KaRyophaRM Karyopharm Therapeutics, a life sciences startup that's poised for growth following a successful initial public offering of stock and preliminary drug approvals, was a rising star in Natick until the company announced it was moving to a bigger headquarters in Newton at the end of July. According to Senior Vice President Paul Brannelly, the expanding company needed a larger headquarters, including laboratory space, but an initial search within Natick was unsuccessful. Craig Johnston, senior vice president at commercial real estate firm R.W. Holmes in Wayland, said that's typical of MetroWest, particularly Natick and Framingham. He said startups that need small laboratories can find homes in the region, but an expanding company like Karyopharm might struggle. southBoRough's WeBco eXtends lease The 40-year-old Southborough-based Webco Engineering has signed a lease extension for its headquarters at 155 Northborough Rd., according to an announcement from Greater Boston Commercial Properties, which handled the transaction.
