www.wbjournal.com March 2, 2015 • Worcester Business Journal 5 HOLLISTON — Biotech firm Harvard Apparatus Regenerative Technology has closed a previously announced public stock offering after raising about $8.6 million, the company announced. Harvard (NASDAQ: HART), a spinoff of Harvard Bioscience, had offered 2.07 million registered shares of common stock at $1.75 a share and nearly 696,000 registered shares of preferred stock at $8.75 per share. HART, which develops regenerated organs for trans- plants, initially focused on the trachea, said it intends to use most of the extra capital for research and development, as well as business development, sales and marketing, capital expenditures, working capital and other general cor- porate purposes. WORCESTER — Robert L. Thomas, the co-founder of Worcester's Martin Luther King Jr. Opportunity Center, is stepping down as its director. "It's been a blessing for me to serve the people of this community for the past 21 years," Thomas said in a statement from the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC), the center's parent organization since 2012. Thomas co- founded the center in 1994, and was named division director in 2012 when the organization affiliated with SMOC. The statement did not give a reason for Thomas' departure. A SMOC spokes- woman said a successor has not yet been named. MAYNARD — Stratus Technologies Inc. and Shanghai Hi-tech Control Systems Co. (HITE) are expanding their 10-year partnership, the compa- nies said. HITE will use Stratus' next- generation software, everRun Express, to deliver servers to the Chinese mar- ket under the brand name of H&i Server. HITE has customers through- out China in manufacturing, energy, chemicals, metallurgy, mining, trans- portation and other sectors, the state- ment said. WORCESTER — Fallon Health has expanded the long-term-care program in Western New York it offers in con- junction with a residential community there. Fallon Health Weinberg in Amherst, N.Y., said it is accepting eli- gible individuals in Niagara County. The program, which already operates in Erie County, is open to people 21 and older who require long-term care for more than 120 days and who are eligible for Medicaid. Fallon Health and Weinberg Campus, both nonprof- its, began their joint venture last fall.
