"ose months are when we do some of our most important work," Heon says. "e investments we've made over the past five years have been sig- nificant. We completed the Jordan 8, North America's fastest eight-person lift, followed by the Barker 6, one of the fastest six-person chairlifts on the continent. "Both are Doppelmayr D-Line lifts, the first of their kind in Maine, and they have fundamentally changed how our guests experience the mountain." A third new lift, the Merrill Hill Triple, was added to service the most recently developed residential neigh- borhood. Merrill Hill has added nearly 40 acres and four new trails, with snowmaking, to the resort. e Jordan Hotel lobby was reno- vated during summer 2023 and 2024. "e Jordan is our premier lodg- ing destination," Heon says, "and we wanted to create a space that truly reflected that." Snowmaking is job one While expanding off-season visitation has been an ongoing focus, Sunday River remains steadfastly committed to supporting the ski experience. "At our core, snow is what we're built on, and it remains an operational and investment prior- ity," Heon says. "Snowmaking is the founda- tion everything else is built on. We have built our reputation on deliver- ing snow that guests can count on, and that combination of technology and talent is something we'll always invest in." "We have the most dependable snow in New England," Heon adds, "backed by the most powerful snow- making system in the country and a team of snowmakers who live and breathe this craft." Sustainability in focus e resort is also employing energy- saving initiatives. "Sustainability is engrained into how we think about every part of our opera- tion, and snowmaking is a great example of that in action," Heon says. e ski area has added over 500 high-efficiency snowguns across all eight peaks. "ese snowguns use less energy and produce more snow in less time, which is a win on every level," Heon explains. "It reduces our footprint and gets our guests on snow faster." Other recent improvements have included purchasing two hybrid snowcats, adding electric vehicles to the transportation fleet and installing LED lighting in all resort properties. Vision 2030 underway e resort adopted a Vision 2030 plan in 2020, which calls for more snowmaking and more facility upgrades. Also on the wishlist are a new building for the SnowSports school programs, an observation tower on North Peak for year-round use, and replacing the Aurora Peak quad the Tempest chair lift.
