The Maine Arts Commission in Augusta awarded a total of $308,750 in FY2026 Organization Operations Grants to 61 nonprofit arts organizations statewide. Island Housing Trust reached its $3.05 million fundraising goal to build nine units of median- income housing in the Hancock County town of Mount Desert. The money is for the third phase of the trust's Ripples Hill neighborhood in the Mount Desert village of Somesville. The homes are desig- nated for nine year-round families who live, work and attend school on Mount Desert Island. Capital Area Staffing Solutions and Bangor Area Staffing Solutions announced that co-founder Cathy DeMerchant assumed full owner- ship of both firms. DeMerchant now serves as president and owner. R Cubed Engineering LLC, an en- gineering firm in Palmetto, Fla., an- nounced the opening of an innova- tion division in Bangor. Katahdin Bankshares Corp., the par- ent company of Katahdin Trust Co. in Houlton, announced 2025 fourth- quarter earnings of $3.14 million, or 99 cents per common share. The results represent an increase of $476,000 over the previous quar- ter and a $1.4 million increase over the fourth quarter of 2024.
