HARTFORDBUSINESS.COM | NOVEMBER 3, 2025 B9 A manda Guillereault Construction Engineer SNYDER CIVIL CONSTRUCTION, LLC A manda Guillereault began her career in the con- struction industry as an intern for a heavy civil contractor while completing her civil engineering degree at the University of Connecticut (UConn). After graduating in 2020, she worked as a site superintendent and project engineer on several Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) roadwork and highway improvement projects. She is currently a construction engineer at Snyder Civil Construction, LLC, where she enjoys managing multiple technically challenging projects and appreciates the diverse specialties involved in water infrastructure work. What inspired you to pursue a career in construction, and how did you get started? The idea of not sitting behind a desk all day! My internship in college allowed me to explore all aspects of construction from estimating, contract administration, project management, and actually building the plans and specs. What challenges have you faced as a woman in the construction industry, and how have you overcome them? A challenge I continue to face is looking for other women in the industry that have families and are able to balance work / life load. Interestingly, most people assume that I do not want to have a family because of my profession. Construction work is very unpredictable and most issues seem to come to light right when you are ready to leave for the day. Being part of a team (both personally and professionally) that does not depend on one person to solve everything seems to be the key to achieving a balance but I am still on the look out for someone who has done it to tell me the secret! What skills or strengths do you believe have contributed most to your success in this field? Not being afraid to ask questions and my love of learning. If I don't know the answer to something I am not afraid to ask a col- NOTABLE Women IN CONSTRUCTION league / supervisor / stranger who can teach me. There are so many knowledgeable people (designers, managers, trade work- ers) who want to teach what they have spent their whole career learning and I have rarely been snubbed for being curious. What advice would you give to young women considering a career in construction? Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and let the norm / status quo dictate what you want to do (whether that is working in the office or in the field). There are pluses and minuses to both sides of the industry and one is not more important than the other. Knowing how a job is built with your hands AND knowing the office / behind the scenes will make you a well rounded construction professional with many options for the rest of your career. 595 Main Street Portland, CT 06480 Snyder Civil Construction, LLC is a Connecticut Small Business Enterprise (SBE) and general contractor primarily serving the water utility industry.
