CONTRIBUTED PHOTO EAST HARTFORD/HARTFORD A Boy Scouts organization serving thousands of children across Connecticut will soon move to down- town Hartford after selling its East Hartford headquarters to a local engineering and architecture firm. The Connecticut Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently sold its 12,087-square-foot, two-story office building on 2 acres at 60 Darlin St., for $860,000 to a limited liability company associated with design firm Russell and Dawson. Russell and Dawson will move to the East Hartford building, an upgrade from the 4,400-square-foot office building it currently owns and occu- pies at 1111 Main St., in East Hartford, according to broker O,R&L Commer- cial, which facilitated the sale. Rob Montesi, of Goman + York Prop- erty Advisors, represented Russell and Dawson in the purchase. Connecticut Rivers Council CEO Mark Switzer said his organization is finalizing a lease for new office space in downtown Hartford, but he declined to identify the location. The move coincides with the Boy Scout's pending rebrand to Scouting America, and its fifth anniversary of welcoming girls into its programs, Switzer noted. Luke Massirio, of O,R&L, repre- sented the seller. PLAINVILLE A limited liability company tied to a major contracting firm has paid $5 million for 58 acres of residentially zoned land in Plainville, but what it plans to do with it is not yet known. Plainville Town Planner Mark DeVoe said he has received multiple calls from curious appraisers and residents following the sale of the large, undevel- oped site off Unionville Avenue. For now, DeVoe said, he doesn't know what the new owner – Ferguson Contrac- tors – intends to do with the two proper- ties located 0 and 90 Unionville Ave. There have been no land-use proposals submitted to Town Hall, DeVoe said. The land is zoned for single-family homes, but it is also mentioned in the town's Plan of Conservation and Develop- ment as a candidate for a planned design development district, DeVoe noted. That would allow greater latitude for land uses, if town zoning officials agree. Attempts to reach a Ferguson repre- sentative were unsuccessful. The land was sold in November by Gardens LLC, which is controlled by Farmington-based Calco Construction & Development Co. The property is bounded by residential neighborhoods on three sides, with indus- trial uses to the north. Ferguson Contrac- tors' Plainville headquarters, along Northwest Drive, borders the northwest corner of the newly acquired property.
