The USS Hampton (SSN 767) is a Los Angeles-class attack submarine homeported in San Diego, Calif., and employing more than 130 crewmembers, according to a news release. The Hampton was built by the General Dynamics Electric Boat Division of Newport News (Va.) Shipbuilding Co. The University of New England signed a full building lease for Seavey Terraces, a modern 65-unit apartment building that is nearing completion at 35 Seavey St. in downtown Westbrook. The building is under development by New Ventures LLC and managed by LUX Residential. MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Portland released its Community Benefit Report that reflected $577 million in total benefit to southern Maine in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2023. OpenTable named two Portland spots to its list of the "Top 100 Restaurants" in the country: Fore Street, which opened in 1996, and Scales, which opened in 2016. Both are owned by chef Sam Hayward and restaurateur Dana Street Piper Shores, a nonprofit life plan re- tirement community in Scarborough, unveiled a new sustainability plan to move towards a carbon neutral campus. The plan was developed in conjunction with Thornton Tomasetti, an international engineering firm specializing in building sustainability initiatives, and residents, staff and community partners. The Little Gym, a children's enrich- ment center, opened at 700 Gallery Blvd., Suite C, in Scarborough. Town & Country Federal Credit Union in Portland awarded a total of $25,000 to eight nonprofits through its Better Neighbor Fund. The MaineHealth Preble Street Learning Collaborative was awarded a five-year, $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to expand its Community Outreach Network Navigation Evidence-based Care and Treatment mobile health and harm reduction program. The program pro- vides essential, on-the-ground sup- port to those experiencing homeless- ness and untreated mental health or substance use disorders. The Ogunquit Museum of American Art announced record-breaking atten- dance this past season, with 21,000 visitors from April 12 through Nov. 17, a 23.5% increase from last year. BluShift Aerospace in Brunswick said that it received a $150,000 grant from the Maine Technology Institute to hire a high-level flight analyst position and to help secure licensing from the Federal Aviation Administration. Tom's of Maine, a manufacturer of natural oral and personal care products, says it's working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to remedy contamination found in an in- spection of the company's toothpaste manufacturing plant in Sanford. Central Maine Growth Council in Waterville said it was federally designated as the state of Maine's official Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Resource Center. As part of the designation the council was awarded a 2024 SBA Federal and State Technology Partnership Program Grant. Bar Harbor Bank & Trust employees presented a total of $19,000 in dona- tions collected through the bank's employee-driven charitable giving program, Casual for a Cause, to nine organizations serving communities in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
