The fund was established by an anonymous couple in gratitude for the consistent support local first responders provide to residents of retirement communities throughout Scarborough. The Portland Public Schools was awarded $25,000 from The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation to pur- chase books for the libraries of each of the district's three middle schools: Lyman Moore, King and Lincoln. Maine Connectivity Authority in Portland launched the Working Internet ASAP Program to provide internet con- nectivity to Maine homes and busi- nesses in rural and remote locations by the end of 2024. Evergreen Credit Union in Portland raised $18,000 at its annual Disc Golf Scramble at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester. All event proceeds benefit the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger. The Biddeford Education Foundation raised $17,000 as part of its seventh annual Pillars of Pride event honoring the Rotary Club of Biddeford-Saco. The funds will be used to provide re- sources outside the school budget for students pre-K through grade 12. The Ogunquit Museum of American Art announced a strategic partnership with Kevin Daly Architects in Los Angles, Calif. to study the museum's existing challenges and create recommenda- tions for a campus and facility plan. The University of Southern Maine in Portland and the Daughters for Life Foundation, a Canadian charity dedi- cated to higher education for young women in the Middle East, partnered to offer three full scholarships start- ing next school year. The scholarship is offered to young women from the Middle East, who are residents and citizens of the region. OceanView at Falmouth announced a community partnership with Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ, a nonprofit that supports performances of one of the world's most celebrated pipe organs, which is in Portland's Merrill Auditorium. Community Health Options, a nonprofit health insurer in New Gloucester, was announced as the new administrator for CarePartners, MaineHealth's program providing free or low-cost health care for low- income, uninsured adults. Altior Healthcare, a California-based provider of behavioral and men- tal health residential treatment for adolescents and young adults, said it completed the conversion of a for- mer traditional therapeutic boarding school in South China into the Riget RTC Lakehouse Maine, an accessi- ble, mental health short-term residen- tial treatment campus. Norway Savings Bank donated $10,000 to Viking FUNds, a program that pays for field trips at elemen- tary schools in Norway, Oxford, West Paris, South Paris, Otisfield, Harrison, Hebron and Waterford. Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield said that for the first time in its 55-year history, lodging will be available for 50 first-time, full-time students at the Best Western Plus Waterville Grand Hotel beginning in fall 2025. A groundbreaking was held for 16 Mills Road Newcastle, a construction project that will feature 16 affordable apartments in Newcastle's down- town area.
