22 Harding Green Rail, plane or car Fletcher pointed out that easy access to public transportation has played a key role. The renovation of Union Station, a mere five blocks to the North, has resulted in 20 dai- ly departures for Boston. Recently, Worcester Air- port added airline carriers, flights and more destina- tions to its schedule. He also cited the proximity to Route 290 as a critical factor in the growing popularity of the Canal District. Approximately 30,000 vehicles travel into the city on a daily basis via Kelley Square, which is currently being reconfigured to facilitate and accommodate increased traffic to the area. Citing Kelley Square as "the river of life," Fletcher asserted that the Canal District is "suddenly becoming a hot district." With the recent announcement of the impending arrival of the Red Sox minor league team to a neighboring, va- cant industrial parcel, Harding Green is poised to benefit from a continuing supply of visitors to the city, offering them the attraction of conviv- ial, close-grained, mixed-use urban fabric to complement their baseball experience. The Blackstone Canal District is widely con- sidered to be the city's hottest, hippest and most hospitable inner-city neigh- borhood, having experi- enced a grass roots renais- sance of bars, restaurants and retail shopping in the past 15 years. Worcester Public Market and Kelley Square Lofts promise to continue that trend into the coming years. Quinlan emphasized that standalone projects seldom succeed. The combined efforts of Fletcher, Dino Lorusso, members of the Canal District Alliance and investors have resulted in the creation a "go-to" place that offers excep - tional urban living. "It has to do with everything happening in the neighborhood," he said. "The best thing that can happen is to understand what the neighborhood has to offer and why you should be living in the Canal District." n CONGRATULATIONS to Canal District Partners Proud to be part of community building 446 Main Street 18 th Floor, Worcester, MA 01608 P 508 757 6391 F 508 797 9307 oconnormaloney.com Citing Kelley Square as the river of life, Fletcher asserted that the Canal District is suddenly becoming a hot district.
