Celebrating 50 Years
The early 1970s heralded
the beginning of widespread
environmental awareness. The
oil crisis had caused a gasoline
shortage, which prompted concerns
about the health of the planet and
the dawn of the green movement.
Lamoureux embraced the concept
of sustainability and incorporated
this philosophy into his approach
to design. From using local and
recycled materials to innovative
shading and energy saving systems,
the firm was at the forefront of
developing earth-conscious
practices.
Lamoureux also respected the
prestigious history of many buildings
throughout Worcester County.
Every renovation was executed with
attention to preserving historic
features as well as reusing existing
materials to reduce waste and cut
costs.
Creating a Legacy
While Lamoureux brought his
skills, industry knowledge and drive
to the firm, he also believed that the
workplace should be fun. In addition
to a loosely defined work day – start
and finish times were flexible – the
firm's physical space reflected its
founder's personality. He created a
modernistic environment around a
"conversation pit" that occupied the
main floor space. The surrounding
walls boasted a montage of various
demonstration systems, project
renderings, and supergraphics.
This area would undergo periodic
transformations that reflected the
prevalent social theme of the day. n
