12 Lamoureux Pagano Associates | Architects LPA|A's previous achievements served to solidify its reputation in the industry, leading to more commissions. The firm sought and secured bigger, more complex and more diversified projects. LPA|A's competence, skills, unique approach to design and strong client relationships resulted in contracts with several towns, academic institutions, cultural venues and businesses. Academic Accomplishments LPA|A experienced a surge in academic commissions during the 1990s. The Knox Trail Junior High School in the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District became the first in a long line of public school projects. Completed in 1992, this commission demonstrated the firm's unique design capabilities, making it a strong contender for additional school projects. In 1994, the City of Worcester commissioned LPA|A to design renovations for the Quinsigamond Elementary School. The original building was constructed in 1890; the addition connected this section of the structure with its public library, which was built in 1913. The school accommodates 600 students and is a prime example of successful preservation efforts. LPA|A's design maintained the historic exterior, while updating the interior to better deliver academic services. The Massachusetts Historic Commission recognized the firm's hard work in developing a design that protected the historic context of the building. This was one of three projects the firm would undertake for the City during this decade. Worcester was not the only municipality to hire LPA|A for its expertise in designing educational institutions. The firm's reputation for excellence in academic design sparked interest from many area 1990s: Set up for Success During the early 1990s, the country shuffled along with a sluggish economy, high unemployment and slow wage growth. However, as the decade progressed, conditions improved. By the mid-1990s rapid advances in technology and growing consumer and business confidence prompted job creation, lower inflation rates, rising productivity and a surging stock market. These factors provided tremendous opportunities for LPA|A. The firm experienced growth of its staff as well as its portfolio. Clark University President's Residence
