THE JACKSON LABORATORY DISCOVERY STARTS HERE 2022: Your support at work in Maine RESEARCH • Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative expanded to oncologists nationwide through SWOG Cancer Research Network study. • JAX scientists received over $130M in new federal and peer-reviewed foundation funding to support research. • JAX established the Rare Disease Translational Center to lead the study of rare disease from diagnosis to research to drug development. COMMUNITY • JAX completed construction of the Hemlock Lane apartments, opening 24 units of new workforce housing at its campus in Bar Harbor. • Laboratory staff and state officials broke ground on Island of Imagination Early Childhood Center, an on-site workforce childcare facility to care for over 50 children. • 271 employees logged 1,927 hours of volunteer service through JAX volunteer time-off program. EDUCATION • Teaching the Genome Generation provided hands-on genomics lessons and labs to over 1,700 students across 32 Maine high schools. • The JAX Endowment for Diversity Initiatives established to provide specialized mentorship to biomedical trainees from underserved communities in science. • JAX celebrated the 5th anniversary of the JAX College Scholarship Program, which has awarded $140,000 in scholarships since 2018.
