56 Giving Guide 2022 Worcester Business Journal www.wbjournal.com Annual support from individuals, corporations, businesses, and charitable foundations plays a vital role in sustaining our dynamic cultural organization. The public is often surprised to learn that approximately $47 of a $50 ticket covers only the cost of a performance, leaving a significant gap to bridge each year. Memberships start with a contribution of $75. An array of benefits aligning to membership levels include advance notification of new shows and invitations to behind-the-scenes events, and for Franklin Square Society members, complimentary parking and access to the Franklin Square Salon and lounge. All Access Club membership provides tickets to all performances throughout the season. Opportunities for businesses and corporations to support our organization, include advertising in our publications and sponsorships that align your company to the theatre's exceptional brand, reputation and loyal patron base. We accept corporate matching gifts and encourage individuals to consider including the theatre in their estate planning. 100% of all tax-deductible contributions help to support our school programs, community engagement activities, need-based conservatory scholarships, and underwrites free and subsidized tickets for students. The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts 1. Our first strategic goal is to make Worcester's theatre district a vibrant destination, with diverse and robust offerings at The Hanover Theatre mainstage, the BrickBox stage at the Jean McDonough Arts Center, and on the new Bank of America outdoor stage on Carroll Plaza, scheduled to open in spring 2023. New initiatives are underway to produce more of our work locally, both under a "THT Repertory" banner at the BrickBox, and through our youth acting and youth ballet companies. In October, we will roll out a fifteen-month celebration of our 15th anniversary, including free performances at the Plaza. 2. Our second strategic goal is to build our capacity. We plan for our organization to be less dependent on earned revenue, giving us stability and a safety net. 3. Our third strategic goal is to embrace diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) so that our internal team represents our community. We have worked with a consultant, and have created a DEIB committee that includes staff, board members and others to add different perspectives to this work. Wells, The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc., Clerk FUTURE GOALS The theatre offers rewarding and meaningful volunteer opportunities, including the following: • Ushers, ticket takers and greeters make the theatre experience a smooth and welcoming one for patrons. The overwhelming majority of our 250 volunteers serve in these roles. Moreover, they benefit by being able to attend a show or concert and sharing their love of the theatre with others. Volunteer ushers must commit to working two shows per month each season. • Volunteers maintain the Francis Carroll Plaza outside the front of the theatre – planting, weeding, watering and maintaining this lovely park that the public can enjoy. • Tour guides give historic and architectural tours of the theatre for groups, during the fall and spring season as needed. • Administrative and box office volunteers assist staff with various tasks on an as-needed basis; certain tasks may be scheduled weekly depending on departmental needs. We always welcome new volunteers to join our inspiring, passionate team. For more information about opportunities and how to get involved, visit http://www.thehanovertheatre.org/volunteer. POST-PANDEMIC: We learned just how much this community values the transformative power of the arts! Hundreds of individuals and organizations generously contributed to our Resiliency Fund, helping us to pivot to virtual and hybrid classes for our Conservatory students. This allowed for a restructuring of our partnership with Worcester Public Schools, to provide students an opportunity to attend performances and participate in Conservatory classes remotely. We also created imaginative and exciting theatre productions, including a filmed version of a Christmas Carol Reimagined, a socially distant Edgar Allan Poe Double Header, and THT Reps' production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar on Worcester Common. "Through its mission to ignite and nurture a passion for the performing arts in audiences and artists of today and tomorrow, The Hanover Theater has been one of the catalysts in the resurgence of downtown Worcester. At performances, staff and volunteers greet you as old friends, while its Conservatory makes an impact in students' lives across Worcester County. It is the live performances whether Broadway, comedy and family shows, concerts, or speakers that not only bring to life Worcester, but are the very heart and soul of the city. All our supporters should be proud as The Hanover Theater enters its 15th year." GIVING OPPORTUNITIES VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
