Saint Vincent to invest $11M in hospital improvements Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester announced June 2 it has invested $11 million in its Worcester facilities and services. The money will go towards a variety of new technologies, including a Da Vinci Xi surgical robot for minimally invasive sur- geries and SAVI SCOUT technolo- gy for surgical breast biopsies, according to Saint Vincent. The hospital will acquire new endoscopy equipment for colonos- copy screenings and gastroenterol- ogy procedures, as well as neuro- interventional radiology for improved stroke and neurovascular procedures. Additionally, the investment will fund a new inte- grated electronic health record sys- tem and renovations to the Center for Women and Infants. "We are acquiring state-of-the- art technology, improving infra- structure, enhancing patient expe- rience, and expanding clinical resources," said Saint Vincent CEO Carolyn Jackson in a statement. "This capital investment under- scores our position as the destina- tion for advanced care." Worcester lab charged in urine testing kickback probe case A Worcester laboratory was among those charged June 6 as part of a MassHealth fraud case involv- ing urine drug testing. Preferred Laboratory LLC of Worcester and its owner, Vipin Adhlakha of Westfield, Ind., were implicated in a scheme that result- ed in more than $2 million in false claims billed to the state insurance system MassHealth, according to a June 7 press release from the office of Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey. Defendants were indicted June 6 by a statewide grand jury, the release said, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. At Preferred and his other labs, Alpha Labs LLC of East Providence, R.I. and Aria Diagnostics, LLC of Indianapolis, Adhlakha allegedly engaged in kickback relationships with mar- keting companies OSA Exports in Southbridge and Summit Diagnostics in Salem, N.H. to increase the number of urine drug tests referred to his laboratories in exchange for a percentage of col- lected insurance reimbursements, which is a violation of Massachusetts anti-kickback statute.
