100 W o r c e s t e r 3 0 0 : C i t y o f I n n o v a t o r s O pen Sky Community Services was formed in 2018 through the affiliation of two of Central Massachusetts' premier human service organizations: Alternatives Unlimited, Inc. and e Bridge of Central Massachu- setts. While the name is only a few years old, the collective history is long and strong, with close to 50 years of experience in program development, evidence-based practices and community engagement, centered around people experiencing complex challenges. We are fueled by the belief that individuals with mental illness, developmental disabil- ities, substance use disorder, autism, and those experiencing homelessness or other complex challenges deserve to live fulfilling lives. We support individuals and families to achieve their own definition of wellness, to develop meaningful relationships, have access to opportunities of their choosing, such as education, employment or participation in community activities, and to be valued mem- bers of their communities. At the foundation of our approach is a commitment to race eq- uity and trauma-informed care, ensuring our staff and those we serve are treated equitably and with the understanding that everyone has a unique story. From our modest start in 1973 with one program, four employees and a budget of $80,000, Open Sky, through affiliation and expansion, has grown to 100 programs, 1,200 employees and a budget of $93 million. We initially grew during changing times, resulting in the transition of people from state institutions to community settings. We continue to grow in response to priorities, needs and challenges that emerge. We strive to approach our work holistically – inclusive of behavioral health and medical needs. We provide wraparound support and services to address social determinants of health such as access to healthcare, food, education, housing and other needs. e City of Worcester and the Central Massachusetts region have grown over the years as well. We are pleased to collaborate with fellow non-profits, area businesses and corporations, municipal officials and the region at large to address the many challeng- es faced by our communities as they grow. Working together is a hallmark of Central Mass, and we are proud to be part of that legacy as we work to ensure that no one is le behind in the exciting times ahead. Congratulations to the City of Worcester on the occasion of this extraordinary milestone. n OPEN SKY COMMUNITY SERVICES, INC.: 50 Years of Experience Focused on Community Inclusion and Evidence-Based Practices Year Founded: 1973 Affiliated under the name Open Sky Community Services, Inc.: 2018 Employees: 1200 Programs: More than 100 Annual Budget: $93 Million "Individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance use disorder, autism, and those experiencing homelessness or other complex challenges deserve to live fulfilling lives."
