104 W o r c e s t e r 3 0 0 : C i t y o f I n n o v a t o r s As Worcester celebrates 300 years of evolution that has resulted in the great city it is today, we at UMass Memorial Health are reflecting on our own transformation over the years. For a decade we've trained our caregivers to become experts in finding solutions to any challenge, big or small — all with one goal in mind — to make UMass Memorial Health the best place to give care and the best place to get care. Our commitment to improve all we do means we're always focused on our relentless pursuit of healing for our patients, our community and each other. It's a key component of our culture of innovation. is spirit brought us through the worst public health crisis of our lifetime — the COVID-19 pandemic — and made us stronger. Our army of 16,500 clinical and non- clinical problem solvers built a field hospital in eight days during the first COVID-19 surge and an even better one during last year's second surge. We created a Hospital at Home program to provide hospital-level care to patients in their own homes, resulting in better and safer care. We implemented an incredible 100,000 ideas from front-line staff over the past nine years — a milestone not achieved by any company that I know of in New England. We volunteered to host Stop the Spread COVID-19 testing in downtown Worcester and Marlborough Hospital did the same in its community. UMass Memorial Medical Center's COVID-19 Treatment Center provided cutting-edge treatments, including monoclonal antibodies to more than 3,500 patients. e list of innovations during the pandemic goes on — all accomplished because we've created a culture in which our employees continuously strive to make our system better for patients and are committed to always helping each other be the best they can be. UMass Memorial Health has a long history of innovative thinking, adapting to constant change and rising to meet the challenges before us as we deliver on our mission to improve the health of the people of Central Massachusetts. We salute the City of Worcester for 300 years of fostering innovation and transformation. n In good health, Eric Dickson, MD President and CEO UMass Memorial Health UMASS MEMORIAL HEALTH: Our Culture of Innovation 855-UMASS-MD / 855-862-7763 www.ummhealth.org Eric Dickson, MD, President and CEO Year Founded: 1998 "e foundation of our culture is innovation.
