As far as anyone can tell, she is the first general counsel for any minor league baseball team. In that role, she was instrumental in the events leading up to August 2018, when the team was simultaneously negotiating with the Rhode Island legislature and the City of Worcester to either keep the top affiliate of the Boston Red Sox in Pawtucket or move the team to the Canal District. Miner essentially had to negotiate two deals in excess of $100 million each, with the team choosing the Worcester one and moving to Massachusetts for its inaugural season this year. Miner began her professional baseball career in the front office of the Boston Red Sox, for whom she was instrumental in creating the 100th anniversary celebration of Fenway Park. Miner's dedication to diversity initiatives and corporate responsibility has been a hallmark of her leadership, as she consistently prioritizes inclusion in employment and partnering decisions. plays a major role in the WooSox Foundation's philanthropic endeavors, focusing on education, recreation, social justice, and children's health. - K.H. What Olympic sport would you be the best at? For an existing sport, my answer is softball, because I played through college (though I was nowhere near as good as the amazing athletes on the U.S. Olympic team!). For a made-up sport, then my answer is nail painting. What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you? Nominating me for the WBJ 40 Under Forty If you could give one message now to your 10-year-old self, what would it be? Don't plan everything. Sometimes the best opportunities and experiences come when you take a detour from the plans you made for yourself. Kim Miner, 32 Executive vice president & general counsel Worcester Red Sox Residence: Quincy Birthplace: Boston Colleges: Tufts University, Harvard Law School When Anderson took over as principal at St. Bernard's, the Diocese of Worcester was just months away from announcing it could no longer afford to support the school. Yet, Anderson stayed as a board of trustees was formed to take over, transitioning St. Bernard's to a privately run Catholic high school and the only one in the region. Anderson has since seen enrollment numbers swell, with a projected 60% increase from the 105-student body she initially took over, all while keeping classes largely in-person since fall of 2020. With that growing student body has come an affirmation of financial support from alumni, with Anderson leading a $2.5-million capital campaign. Where there was once a school thought destined for closure, under Anderson's leadership is instead a school that appears destined for growth and serving the community. The school's campus ministry conducted service projects with the Spanish American Center and the Haitian Outreach Project, and Anderson took on a large role collaborating with United Way of North Central Mass' Project Hunger and Toys for Tots and Making Opportunity Count, Inc. in Fitchburg. - M.B. What movie or TV character would you like to be? George Washington from Hamilton. I'm just amazed at the way he's depicted: strong, undistracted by nonsense, humble, and discerning. All things I strive to be! What one Central Mass. activity should everyone try? You must come see a Worcester Red Sox game! It's magical! The lights are hearts! And they dance! What items have you crossed off your bucket list? I've traveled solo in Europe, enrolled at Harvard, and been blessed with two beautiful children, an amazing husband, and a community I love. Linda Anderson, 35 Principal St. Bernard's High School, in Fitchburg Residence: Westminster Birthplace: Charlton Colleges: Mount Holyoke College, Harvard Graduate School of Education
