Ray Pineault, who has been acting as the company's interim CEO since March, will keep the chief executive job permanently. Pineault formerly served as president and general manager of Mohegan Sun, MGE's flagship establishment, and before becoming interim CEO he held the title of chief operating officer at MGE. MGE is currently in the midst of an ambitious expansion, having opened a new casino in Las Vegas in April. The company is also pursuing integrated resort-casino projects in Greece and Japan. Cybrexa Therapeutics names new CFO Cybrexa Therapeutics, an oncology- focused biotechnology company based in New Haven, has appointed pharmaceutical and financial services veteran Stephen Basso to serve as its chief financial officer. Basso will lead the company's financial operations, including investor relations and potential financing. The company is developing anti- tumor therapies for cancer patients. Its lead candidate, CBX- 12, is the company's first to enter the human testing phase. It aims to fight tumors with fewer toxic side effects by depositing powerful cancer-fighting agents directly into tumor cells. Basso brings more than 30 years of experience in the financial services and pharmaceutical industries. Prior to joining Cybrexa, he had leadership roles at Inozyme Pharma, Alexion Pharmaceuticals and Pfizer. Sachem Capital Corp. appoints new chief investment officer Sachem Capital Corp. of Branford recently appointed William C. Haydon as its chief investment officer and director of investor relations. Haydon is responsible for managing the company's liquid reserves and securities portfolio, as well as Sachem's underwriting team. Haydon also will oversee the company's investor relations activities. Haydon is a senior finance and capital markets executive with over 25 years of experience in financial services and investment banking. Prior to joining Sachem, he served as a portfolio manager and branch manager at Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network. He has also worked for UBS Financial Services and Northern Mortgage Company LLC. As merger looms, Webster Bank tweaks regional leadership roles Webster Bank is shaking up its regional leadership, including giving its Hartford president an expanded role. Webster announced the changes ahead of its $10.3 billion merger with New York's Sterling Bancorp, slated to close later this year. Timothy D. Bergstrom, who has overseen Webster's Hartford market operations as regional president, will now add Middlesex and New Haven counties to his turf. He joined Webster in 1998 and became Greater Hartford regional president in 2014. Webster also named Martin Anderson to a newly created regional president role in Fairfield County, where Webster will move its headquarters post-merger. Michael L. O'Connor, Waterbury regional president, will remain in that role. InveniAI picks new chief scientific officer Guilford-based company InveniAI LLC, which uses artificial intelligence for drug discovery and development, has appointed Dr. Salvatore Alesci as its chief scientific officer. Alesci, a physician and scientist, will work with the leadership team on scientific and business strategies. e company is focused on the gut-brain connection and chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, such as irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease. Alesci has held scientific leadership roles in the government, pharmaceutical and nonprofit sectors. He currently serves as chief scientist and strategy officer for Beyond Celiac, an organization focused on a cure for celiac disease.
