BUILDING BUSINESS BY PETER BY PETER VAN ALLEN VAN ALLEN CLARKS POND APARTMENT COMPLEX TO OPEN FIRST UNITS THIS FALL One of greater Portland's largest-scale apartment developments in recent mem- ory will open the first of four buildings this fall. PM Construction Co. of Saco is managing the large-scale construction of the Latitude at South Portland. e apartment complex will consist of four build- ings — each 68,500 square feet — a total of 256 units, mainly 1- or 2-bedrooms. Each building includes a lounge, conference room and fitness center. ere will also be two outdoor kitchen/grilling spaces on the property. Design is a collabora- tion with Archetype Architects of Portland. Northeast Firestopping Solutions was the firestop contractor at the Latitude. Elsewhere, PM Construction is managing construction of the Samuel L. Cohen Households at the Cedars, senior-housing housing in Portland, at 620-640 Ocean Ave. It also has some non-residential projects in the works: Supermarket renovations at the Hannaford in Elm Plaza in Waterville. Work includes a new façade and upgraded departments and décor. Renovations at the Moody Beach RV Campground in Wells. Updates include adding brand new shower/restroom facilities and additional office space. School renovations in Biddeford at three locations in the district with a focus on lobby and vestibule upgrades. PROJECTS UNDERWAY THROUGHOUT MAINE Great Falls Construction of Gorham is finishing what it calls its "5 in 5" accom- plishment, construction of five mainte- nance and public works facilities in five years. e most recent is Saco's Public Works Facility, which will be 30,000 square feet. It will be completed this fall. e other four builds were in Windham, a vehicle maintenance facil- ity of 27,000 square feet; MDOT's maintenance-and-operations facility at the International Marine Terminal's Eimskip site; South Portland's munici- pal services facility, 82,000 square feet; and Westbrook's 33,500-square-foot facility for public services, school trans- portation and fleet maintenance. at's not all. Great Falls is also building fire stations for South Portland and Lewiston. In Casco, it's doing a school addition and renovation. In Old Orchard Beach, it's building an administrative facility for the waste- water treatment facility. Finally, it's building the York Toll Plaza at mile 8.8 of the Maine Turnpike. DeStefano & Associates Inc. and CWS Architects have completed the design and construction of the Main Beach Bath- house, offering public facilities in Ogun- quit. It's 2,500 square feet and includes 700 square feet dedicated for lifeguard use. DeStefano is based in Portsmouth, N.H. CWS is based in Scarborough. Jewett Construction promoted Alain LeBlanc to director of field opera- tions. He has 16 years of experience in construction. He'll oversee field ops and staff for all projects from Maine and New Hampshire offices. Jewett is based in Raymond, N.H., and has an office in Scarborough.
