wbjournal.com | July 6, 2020 | Worcester Business Journal 5 B R I E FS Rosemary Picard named first female CEO and president of Savers Bank Savers Bank of Southbridge announced Wednesday it has named Rosemary Picard as the company's new CEO and president, roles she officially assumed on May 11, making her the first woman to ever head the company. Picard, who was most recently the Savers Bank chief operating officer and chief financial officer, replaces former CEO and president Joe Coderre, who retired aer working with the bank for 35 years. Picard, a Hopkinton resident, previously served as CFO and treasurer for Dean Bank, headquartered in Franklin. She also worked with Beneficial Finance & Mortgage and State Street Bank & Trust in Graon. She is a certified public accountant. Picard holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from UMass Dartmouth. Marlborough plaza across from Apex Center to expand following $8.7M land purchase RK Center, a Hannaford-anchored shopping plaza on Route 20 in Marlborough, is expanding with the purchase of adjacent retail space for nearly $8.7 million. e Needham-based retail owner bought about 50,000 square feet of additional retail space next to its existing plaza in a deal closed June 3. RK Centers bought the property from Crosspoint Associates, an owner of retail, industrial and office space, including the 9X27 Exchange plaza in Natick. RK Center's expansion in Marlborough adds Sullivan Tire, Mattress Firm, Chipotle, Subway, Great Clips and Pediatric Dentistry. e site also includes a vacant former Planet Fitness, as well as a developable vacant pad site that can fit a 7,500-square-foot tenant. RK Center already included an Office Max, Dollar Tree, LongHorn Steakhouse, Five Guys, Panera Bread and others. A four-story office building is also on the property. e site sits in a stretch of Route 20 just west of I-495 that has become more built out in the past few years with construction of the Apex Center of New England, which includes two hotels, an entertainment center, an office building with more than 100,000 square feet, and other restaurants and retailers. Waters Corp. CEO stepping down Milford health soware company Waters Corp., which has $2 billion in annual revenue, announced Wednesday it is seeking a replacement to CEO Christopher O'Connell. e company said the agreement for O'Connell to step down from his role both as president and as a board of directors member was mutual. He will remain with Waters as an advisor until the end of the year to support the transition, according to the release. at search for a new CEO is already underway with the board working with an executive search firm. O'Connell has been the CEO of Waters since September, 2015. In that time, the company has embarked on a new product cycle, according to the release, with the company's stock value growing by more than 50%. However, the company has struggled recently in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. In the first quarter of the year, the company reported a 10% drop in sales and an operating income decline of $53 million, or 44%, in the three months ending March 28. Swiss biotech to create 100 jobs with new Framingham manufacturing facility CRISPR erapeutics, a Switzerland- based biopharmaceutical gene editing company, has announced it is building a new cell therapy manufacturing facility in Framingham. e new facility will create 100 jobs, according to a release from the company based in Cambridge and Zug, Switzerland. e site will be used for clinical and commercial production of the company's investigational cell therapies. e facility will allow the company to accelerate its programs and scale up for commercial supply, according to CRISPR erapeutics CEO Samarth Kulkarni. e company did not specify when the factory will open.
