Department of Revenue "Our kids are getting to get exposure to a lot of things that might not know," Rubin said. "ere's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes at every single one of those businesses." e education foundation works with students of all ages. Along with directly connecting older high schoolers with potential opportunities for aer graduation, it works with younger students to explore possible paths. e STEM conference at the Cummings school, for example, allows 7th and 8th graders to think about their own interests. "ere's a lot of businesses, and students are basically treated as college students for the day," Baum said. "ey choose different break-out sessions." Even elementary students get their own special program: Art in the Valley, an annual show drawing thousands of people to view the work of K-8 students from around the region. "e big piece is to expose students to all areas, to say, 'What is your interest?'" Baum said. "You don't know, but you could have a student who does a piece of artwork and is super proud of it. at could spark an interest where then in high school maybe they're doing to end up going into graphic design." roughout its programs, BVEF is thoughtful about catering to students who may go directly into the workforce aer high school, those who will go on to get a four-year-degree or more, and everyone in between. For example, it works with Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester to make sure students understand the potential of community college, either in getting a certificate or associate degree, or in beginning a four-year education in a low-cost way. "We try to give opportunities to students to see what is truly out there," Baum said. Continued from Page 17 FB
