This is a continued opportunity to showcase what is really happening in manufacturing today. Manufacturers Association of Maine is a statewide industry as- sociation promoting the growth, expansion and retention of manu- facturing in Maine. The association provides programs and business services to meet the needs of our businesses and workers. Once again, in 2018, the Manu- facturing Summit results indicate the majority of companies want access to talent and worker avail- ability a major concern. Addition- ally, industry cited energy and taxes as areas of policy concerns. This publication is a significant outreach strategy to engage more young people, educators, parents and the public in the career oppor- tunities in modern manufacturing. Stuff Made in Maine provides the opportunity to build awareness and educate others about what modern manufacturing looks like today. We are extremely proud to rep- resent manufacturers in sectors such as: bioscience and medical devices, boat building, electronics, food and beverage, metal fabrica- tion and precision manufacturing, plastics, composites, bioplas- tics, wireless communications, semiconductor, textile and wood products. There are a substantial number of career opportunities in all these areas. Modern manufacturing consists of manufacturing facilities filled with high tech computer systems, automation, "clean rooms," engi- neering and research and develop- ment. Careers span production and engineering, machining, welding, purchasing, management, sales, finance, HR, IT/tech support, techni- cal services, distribution, inspec- tion, administration, equipment repair/mechanical and more. This publication, along with tours and events, introduces stu- dents and educators to the world of manufacturing through the eyes of businesses right here in Maine. It highlights many of our young professionals in manufacturing who have found rewarding careers.
