It's also been on the forefront of such diverse programs as Drive Electric Maine and the Maine Food Foundry, which is a three-year col- laborative to put 2.5 million pounds of foodshed back into the community. At the time of her appointment, outgoing director Neal Allen said she would take the organization's eff orts in economic and environ- mental sustainability to the next level. At the time Egan was named GPCOG executive director, she was in the middle of her second three-year term on the Freeport Town Council, and had been a town resident Egan, who lives in Freeport, is a six-year Maine resident, who previously was director of Transportation for Massachusetts, a coalition of 5 business, environmental planning and transit organizations in the Bay State. She was also director of the South Coast Rail Project under Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and was director of the Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance. She works closely with every practice group on their hiring needs and is a founding member of the fi rm's diversity and inclusion committee created more than a decade ago. In 201, she represented the committee at a Racial Equity Institute workshop. She also helped facilitate the fi rm working with Maine Intercultural Commission Consultants to measure the fi rm's intercultural compe- tency and to hold diversity and inclusion training based on the fi rm's collective assessment. Recently, she was one of the leading champions of a groundbreak- ing parental leave policy at Bernstein Shur that provides 16 weeks of paid leave to all new parents and removes any distinction between primary and secondary caregivers.
