Recipients included: Amistad Inc., In Her Presence, Maine Access Immigrant Network, Maine Transgender Network Inc., Mano en Mano/Hand in Hand, New Mainers Public Health Initiative, Portland Outright and Wabanaki Health and Wellness. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry in Augusta introduced the Dairy Improvement Fund, a revolving loan program to help Maine dairy farms and enterprises fund capital improvements to maintain and enhance the viability of their farms. BIW awarded $87M for U.S. Navy work Bath Iron Works has been awarded an $87 million contract by the U.S. Navy to continue integrated plan- ning yard services for Arleigh Burke-class and Oliver Hazard Perry-class ships, according to a joint announcement by U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Angus King, I-Maine. e contract covers integrated planning and support for Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Oliver Hazard Perry-class of frig- ates built at BIW, for tasks including design, planning and modernization. Collins is a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and King is a member of the Armed Services Committee. Zoning change to be considered for solar farm Energy development company Next Phase Energy Services LLC has submitted a petition to the Land Use Planning Commission to change the zoning of a Hancock County property in order to estab- lish a 100-megawatt solar farm. e Bangor Daily News reported the requested rezoning, from a gen- eral classifi cation to commercial, for more than 700 acres of blue- berry fi elds in Maine's Unorganized Territory on land owned by forestry company Elliott Jordan & Son Inc. Dave Fowler, head of Next Phase Energy Services, told the BDN the proposed solar farm, called ree Rivers Solar, is a partnership between his fi rm and Elliott Jordan & Son. Pending zoning approval and permitting, they would bring in a partner to provide capital invest- ment for developing the site, which would be in 2020, Fowler said. Boatyard's former CFO sentenced for embezzlement Former Brooklin Boat Yard CFO Steven Nygren was sentenced to seven years and seven months in federal prison for stealing $815,000 from the business. e Bangor Daily News reported that Nygren, 51, of Salem, Mass., was also sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor to fi ve years with supervised release and ordered to pay more than $815,000 restitution. Nygren spent about half the money on a lease-to-own agreement at the Brooklin General Store, in which he is no longer involved. "If Brooklin Boat Yard went down, the community would just about die," U.S. District Judge John Woodcock said at the sentenc- ing. Boatyard owner Steve White told the judge Nygren stole from a $500,000 line of credit the business had with Camden National Bank.
