Co-founded in 1985 and originally located in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, CEA has expanded its portfolio of ser- vices through the years and was acquired by Joseph S. Campisi in 2016. He serves as President of the firm, which is now headquartered in Westborough. CEA also has offices in Westbrook, Maine, and Concord, New Hampshire. CEA maintains an edge on the competition due to its investment in staff, technology, management and its project tracking system. The firm's professional staff and its management structure ensure every project receives optimal attention from knowledgeable, experienced industry experts. Professional engineers (PE); licensed site professionals (LSPs); licensed environmental profes- sionals (LEPs); certified industrial hygienists (CIHs); certified asbestos inspectors; certified wetland scientists; human health risk assessors; EHS compliance specialists; CAD operators; and environmental scientists provide cost-effective, high quality, practical solutions to a range of environmental challenges. CEA continues to provide a full spectrum of environ- mental consulting services, including environmental due diligence and engineering; site assessment and remedia- tion; environmental health and safety (EH&S); industrial hygiene; hazardous building material assessments; emer- gency response and multi-media sampling; and related field services. However, the firm is poised to expand in three service areas: natural resources surveys and envi- ronmental permitting for utilities and energy developers, environmental health and safety consulting for manufac- turing clients and environmental risk management (its core business) for a broad range of commercial and institutional clients. With the acquisition of Maine-based Boyle Associates last June, CEA is placing greater emphasis on renewable energy sources. Campisi explained that Boyle Associates focuses on environmental permitting and compliance, wetlands delineation and natural resource assessment for renewable energy projects including wind and solar, and more traditional energy projects, such as transmission lines, substations, and pipelines. "If a utility client has to do permitting, we can do the environmental study to minimize or mitigate adverse impact on the environment. Our wetland scientist looks at endangered species, vernal pools and other natural habitats as part of the ecological piece of the work," Campisi said. "We do the same for solar and wind proj- ects. Each project has a slightly different emphasis, but uses the same experts." Campisi points out that Massachusetts has a robust renewable energy program; many of CEA's projects ben- efit from that program. Since Boyle Associates works primarily in Maine and New Hampshire, where the firm provides consulting for gas pipelines, transmission lines, solar farms and wind energy projects, CEA hopes to build this energy-related consulting practice across the Northeast in the near future. Furthermore, CEA is focused on growing organically and being aggressive about acquisitions. "We want to be recognized as a regional and national player. We want to aggregate our business to provide a broader array of ser- vices," Campisi said. " Our long-term objective is to make at least one acquisition each year as part of our business development and organic growth." The firm recently hired Brandon Weber as business development manager to focus on selling CEA's core services and move toward further expansion. As CEA pursues its goal of providing environmental health and safety consulting on a national basis, Campisi anticipates a ten to 20 percent growth in business with a related revenue boost.
