Franklin recently informed Connecticut Public's board of trustees his retirement will take effect June 30, 2019, while a committee conducts a national search for his replacement. The network, home to Connecticut Public Television (CPTV), Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR) and Connecticut Public Learning, won several awards under Franklin's leadership. UConn's Herbst stepping aside in '19 Susan Herbst, UConn's first female president to lead the flagship school the past eight years, is stepping down next year to teach there, the Storrs school announced. Herbst, 55, has led the 137-year- old university to several milestones in her tenure, however she has encountered headwinds with state lawmakers over funding to sustain and improve its curricula, programming and infrastructure. "Despite financial struggles because of the state budget, together we have become a stronger, better university," she said. "UConn is among the finest research universities in the United States and the pride of the state of Connecticut, as it should be." Gov. Dannel P. Malloy praised Herbst as "a transformative and visionary president" who led UConn to seven consecutive years as one of the top 25 public universities in the country, most recently achieving its highest yet ranking at No. 18. Malloy to open sports betting talks with tribes Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said he will try to resolve who has rights to sports gambling — the tribal owners of the state's two casinos, licensed off-track betting parlors or other vendors chosen by the state, or a mix of the two — before calling the General Assembly into special session to consider legalizing wagering on sports. Malloy has met with legislative leaders to outline his intention to negotiate with the state's two federally recognized tribes, which have exclusive rights to casino gambling under longstanding agreements and a right under the federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act to offer other forms of gambling if allowed by state law. The governor and legislature are reacting to a recent 6-3 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that struck down a federal law banning wagering on professional and collegiate sports in states other than Nevada, whose casinos have long had sports books. In the regular session that ended several weeks ago, legislators declined to act before the court's ruling. CT Mirror W. The Corbin Collection is the former Corbin's Corner Shopping Center, 1445 New Britain Ave., opposite Westfarms mall. Seritage said it sold a 50 percent stake in Corbin to a First Washington affiliate. The $52 million valuation includes the remaining costs to finish the project, Seritage and First Realty officials said. 14 Bobala Road 3rd Floor Holyoke, MA 01040 Tel: 413.536.3970 www.WAdvising.com Headquarters 280 Trumbull St 24th Floor Hartford, CT 06103 Tel: 860.522.3111 One Hamden Center 2319 Whitney Ave, Suite 2A Hamden, CT 06518 Tel: 203.397.2525 The majority of the new tax provisions begin in 2018.
