Catherine (Katy) Longley will be promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer of The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), a nonprofit biomedical research institute, effective July 1. She will provide strategic leadership, direction and management for all operational functions and procedures for JAX. She will replace Charles (Chuck) Hewett, who will be retiring after 15 years. Longley has been vice president and chief financial officer of JAX since Aug. 2016. She also serves as the institutional official for animal welfare and chairs JAX's 403(b) retirement plan committee. Nancy S. Hunter has relocated Hunter Law LLC, a general practice law firm, to Cromwell from Durham. Hunter advises individuals, families, businesses and organizations on legal matters related to personal injury, workers' compensation, real estate and wills/ estate planning. Hunter established the firm in 2015 after working 11 years at law firms in New Haven, Hamden, New Britain and New London, where she primarily focused on personal injury matters. Sue Chmieleski has been appointed healthcare industry leader, North America, within the corporate risk and broking (CRB) segment for Willis Towers Watson, a global advisory and brokerage. Chmieleski, working in the company's Hartford office, will be responsible for strategy and enhancing the company's value for serving healthcare organizations, including hospitals, integrated delivery systems, physician groups, long-term care facilities and managed-care organizations. Melissa McDermott has been promoted to head of pricing for global lines in Hartford for XL Catlin's insurance operations. McDermott will be responsible for driving portfolio and technical excellence across the global lines portfolio. As part of this role, she will sit on the pricing leadership team as well as the global lines leadership team. McDermott has 20 years of reserving and insurance pricing experience, and joined XL Catlin seven years ago in actuarial financial reporting. She most recently was deputy head of pricing for the North America business group. Dr. Kristen Zarfos, a breast surgeon, has rejoined Middlesex Hospital, where she worked from 1987 to 1999. During that time, she was a leader in the national fight to force health maintenance organizations to cover hospital stays for mastectomy patients and she remains a passionate advocate for women's health issues. Zarfos, who was most recently director of The Hospital of Central Connecticut's Comprehensive Breast Health Center, practices in both Middletown and Westbrook. Ray Chase has been appointed senior vice president and director of personal lines for People's United Insurance Agency, a subsidiary of People's United Bank, and from his base in Hartford will lead a team serving Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont with tailored insurance offerings. Chase has 15 years of experience, including at Wachovia Bank, where he served as vice president and senior financial specialist. Fran Knights and Gina Robinson recently joined E.A. Quinn Landscape Contracting Inc. of Glastonbury — Knights in the newly created position of sales manager and Robinson as construction administrator. Knights will oversee various sales functions across all markets, with an initial focus on residential design/build and commercial maintenance. She previously worked for Big Fish Promotions in Glastonbury as vice president and general manager. Robinson will work in the estimating, procurement and accounting areas and has more than 17 years of experience in the construction industry as an office manager and construction administrator for New England Building Products in Meriden.
