Funds were distributed to programs and organizations that focus on improving academic and career success for underrepresented students, creating and maintaining thriving neighborhoods and enriching lives through arts and culture. The Connecticut Main Street Center received a $12,500 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain to further transit- oriented development planning in Kensington. The grant is among more than $250,000 in grants announced by the Community Foundation for 2018. The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded $26,329 to Goodwin College as part of an announced $18.6 million in grants for 199 humanities projects across the country. The Goodwin College grant will be used to integrate humanities content into the college's career- focused programs in business, manufacturing, homeland security and criminal justice. Reynolds' Subaru of Lyme recently donated $30,000 to Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center's new Westbrook location. The donation will help ensure that cancer patients have access to the best possible treatments and care team. Middletown-based Community Health Center said it's opened a Denver, Colo., office for its Weitzman Institute, which is CHC's first physical location outside Connecticut. CHC, a not-for-profit organization, said the Denver office will better connect institute staff to its customers and programs in 37 states. Weitzman's new Denver office will be overseen by Matt Vinikas, who is chief operating officer of Community eConsult Network, which helps primary care providers receive electronic consultations from specialists for underserved patients and is among Weitzman's myriad programs. Smith will lead Kaman's aircraft original equipment manufacturing operations, including sales, production and support of the K-MAX helicopter and support for the worldwide fleet of SH-2G Super Seasprite naval helicopters. Smith has more than 35 years of experience in the aerospace industry, including more than 20 years with Pratt & Whitney, where she held a number of increasingly responsible positions. She joined Kaman in 2001 and most recently served as Kaman's vice president-supply chain and enterprise performance. Stephen Dow has been promoted to senior vice president, director of Small Business Administration and specialty banking at Webster Bank. Dow joined Webster in 2013 in the corporate strategy group. Most recently he was Webster's head of corporate strategy and was responsible for leading the annual long-range planning process and advising senior management to develop economic profit-maximizing strategies. William Tourtillotte recently became operations manager of East Granby- based Newgate Instruments LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Joining Industries. Tourtillotte oversees daily operations for the company, which designs and manufactures devices for remote pipeline monitoring in the energy industry. Tourtillotte joined Newgate Instruments in 2016 as an electrical engineer and was promoted to product development engineer in 2017. David F. Hurley, a licensed environmental professional, recently joined Cheshire-based consulting firm Milone & MacBroom Inc. as director of brownfield redevelopment. Jeffrey Sargent has been appointed chief compliance officer of Northstar Wealth Partners (NSWP), a financial and wealth management firm headquartered in West Hartford. Sargent joins the firm with more than 18 years of compliance supervisory experience and more than 25 years in the financial services industry overall. Sargent most recently served as chief compliance and administrative officer for Westport Resources Management & Investment Services. Dana Neves has been promoted to vice president and general manager at WFSB-TV, Channel 3, Meredith Corp.'s CBS affiliate serving Hartford/ New Haven. She will report to Patrick McCreery, Meredith local media group executive vice president. Neves is a Channel 3 veteran. She began her career as an intern in 1995 and worked her way up, eventually becoming news director in 2006.
