North American Snowsports Jour- nalist Association selected Heather Burke as its "2018 Mitch Kaplan Award" winner, hon- oring persons who have contributed to the advancement of skiing and snowboarding, demonstrat- ing excellence in media relations and bringing commitment and dignity to journalism. Burke is a travel journalist based in Kennebunkport. Campbell's Landscape & Design in Topsham and Maine Heritage Timber Frames in Lisbon Falls received the "Best in Show Award" and "Pre-Cast Award" at the Maine Flower Show in Portland. Terrapin Landscapes in Kennebunkport, Terrence J. DeWan & Associates in Yarmouth and Pierson Nurseries in Biddeford were multiple winners as they captured the "e Joseph Scott eme Award," "Designer's Task Award," "Maine-Grown Plants Award," "Pollinator Award" and "Woody Ornamental Award." Other winners included: Billy Goat Landscaping, Kennebunk, "e People's Choice Award," and "Annual Award;" C.M. Nichols Landscape Co., Denmark, "Native Award" and "Perennial Award;" Picture Perfect Landscaping, Bowdoinham, "Color Pallete Award;" Terrapin Landscapes, Terrence J. DeWan & Associates, Pierson Nurseries and Maine Stonework in Kennebunkport, "Natural Stone Award;" and Jaiden Landscaping, West Bath, "Plants for the Kitchen Award." The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers in Waterville received noti- fication that it has achieved Renewal of Hague Accreditation through the Council on Accreditation as autho- rized by the U.S. Department of State. Fyood Kitchen in Portland was named a winner of "e 2018 American Small Business Championship" by SCORE, the nation's largest network of volunteer, expert business mentors. Recipients receive an all-expense- paid trip to a training and network- ing event, mentoring and publicity throughout the year and a chance to win one of three $15,000 grand prizes. Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, said attor- ney Jordan Payne Hay was selected to pres- ent at a roundtable discussion being hosted by the Oxford Hills SCORE and Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce. Hay will discuss "Branding and trademarking: legal considerations." Maine's Landscape Management in Gorham was recognized in the inaugural CASE Kickstart Contest as a runner-up in the business development contest in which landscaping contractors entered to win a suite of prizes designed to take their company to the next level. Lee Ann Szelog, president of Simply Put LLC, was selected to speak at the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Association Annual Conference in Norfolk, Va. Szelog presented two sessions, "Balancing High Tech with High Touch" and "Managing Time So It Doesn't Manage You." Spring Harbor Hospital, a private psychiat- ric treatment and recovery center in Westbrook, said it earned e Joint Commission's "Gold Seal of Approval for Behavioral Health Care Accreditation" by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Maine Principals' Association selected Deb Kierstead, an administrative assis- tant at Casco Bay High School, as a "2018 Secretary of the Year." Northern Maine Development Commission in Caribou was designated as a certified Community Development Financial Institution by the U.S. Department of Treasury, which allows the commission to expand lending services in Aroostook, Washington, Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. Sappi North America, a producer and supplier of diversified paper and pack- aging products, was awarded Gold Recognition Level in sustainability per- formance by EcoVadis, an independent third-party evaluation of sustainability performance rating agency. The Maine Public Relations Council announced that Meg Handlin earned the Accreditation in Public Relations.
