OF NOTE Trinity College President Joanne Berger-Sweeney has been selected among the 213 newly elected members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Berger-Sweeney has served as president of Trinity College since July 2014. She is also a neuroscience professor. Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford hosts '2018 GREAT Futures Celebration' Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford hosted the 2018 GREAT Futures Celebration at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. The gala, which drew nearly 600 attendees, featured an auction, remarks from Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford President and CEO Samuel S. Gray Jr., I. Bradley Hoffman, chairman of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford board of trustees, and Kaycia Narine, the 2018 Youth of the Year. Pictured are Gray and Narine. Movers & Shakers Patrick Duffany, a CPA and lawyer, has been appointed new managing partner of the tax practice at accounting, tax and advisory firm CohnReznick LLP. Duffany succeeds Kenneth Kanter, who is retiring. Duffany previously led CohnReznick's state and local tax, and national tax consulting practices. Based in the Hartford office, he has more than 25 years of public accounting experience. Lee T. Gaudreau has joined the tax staff of Federman, Lally & Remis LLC in Farmington. Prior to joining the firm, Gaudreau held public and private accounting positions in Manhattan and Atlanta. Brian Runkle, head of bank operations for Webster Bank, and Alice Spinella, director of business solutions, have been promoted to executive vice president. Runkle will work closely with the lines of business to strengthen and further automate operational processes. He joined Webster in 2016 as senior vice president for transformation and operational excellence and previously held several leadership roles at General Electric. Spinella joined Webster in 1981, and brings a background in business, information technology, process improvement and program management. Nick Pinto of Sentry Commercial has been appointed chair of the MetroHartford Alliance's Hartford Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs (HYPE) initiative, which seeks to position the Hartford region as an attractive area for young professionals and entrepreneurs to live, work and play. Dr. Dennis M. Mello, a pediatric cardiac surgeon, has returned to Connecticut Children's Medical Center as clinical director of cardiovascular surgery. Mello will lead a revitalized pediatric cardiac surgery program at Connecticut Children's, caring for patients with congenital heart disease. Mello most recently served as director of pediatric cardiac surgery at Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. Jonathan Kelly, Matthew Teich and Brian Tims have been admitted as partners at Hartford-based law firm Halloran & Sage. Kelly is a member of the firm's litigation and dispute resolution, and insurance practice groups. Teich is a member of the corporate business and transactions and real estate practice groups, and handles transactional matters including finance, corporate and commercial real estate. Tims is a member of the litigation and dispute resolution, labor and employment, commercial litigation, and criminal defense practice groups. Randy Noka, a Narragansett tribal member, has been promoted to vice president of new markets for Mohegan Sun. Noka now leads a group focused on expanding Mohegan Sun's high-end network casino clientele business and maintaining long- term guest loyalty. Noka joined Mohegan Sun in 2005, taking an executive host position and soon thereafter was promoted to director of new markets. Brian W. Fischer has been promoted to counsel in the Hartford office of Murtha Cullina LLP, where he is a member of the business and finance department. His practice includes mergers and acquisitions.
