Farmington biotech notches $37M in funding A Farmington-based biotechnology company said it secured $37 million in funding from myriad northeast investment firms. Rallybio LLC, which is trying to develop therapies for patients suffering from rare disorders, raised the money from Westport-based Canaan Partners, Boston's 5AM Ventures and New York- based New Leaf Venture Partners. Rocky Hill's Connecticut Innovations, a quasi-public agency, also provided funding, the company said. Co-founded in January by a trio of leaders from the biopharma industry, the company said it plans to test drugs with antibodies, small molecules and engineered proteins to develop breakthrough therapies for patients. The co-founders include Martin Mackay, Dr. Stephen Uden, and certified public accountant Jeffrey Fryer. Athletes want to preserve integrity of the game amid sports betting push Two major sports leagues sent retired stars to the Capitol April 24 to urge Connecticut to regulate sports gambling in a way that best preserves the integrity of professional athletics. CT paces 4-yr. drop in U.S. opioid scripts Connecticut and the rest of New England led a plummeting decline in America's opioid-prescription rate in recent years, as doctors ply more non-addictive options to help patients manage their pain, physicians say. The Connecticut State Medical Society (CSMS) and the American Medical Association shared findings from North Carolina health-data provider IQVIA that opioid prescriptions fell 22 percent nationally between 2013 and 2017. Connecticut's opioid-prescription rate fell 27.3 percent in the same period; they dropped 11 percent in 2017 alone, CSMS said.
