Maine Medical Center in Portland announced it received the Joint Commission's "Gold Seal of Approval" and the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association's "Heart- Check" mark for Advanced Certifi cation for Comprehensive Stroke Centers, the highest level of stroke certifi cation a hospital can receive. e hospital said it is the fi rst in Maine to join this group of certifi ed Comprehensive Stroke Centers in the United States. Lutron Electronics, an energy-saving lighting and shade control manufac- turer, recognized Lighting Concepts in Lewiston as its "Shade Project of the Year" and "Connected Home Project of the Year" award winner at its 2017 5-Star Lighting Showroom Awards. The UMaine Alumni Association selected former Maine Gov. John E. CarMax Inc., the nation's largest retailer of used cars, was ranked No. 34 by FORTUNE magazine on its list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For." e company recently opened its fi rst store in Maine, at 415 Maine Mall Road in South Portland. The Portland Water District said David Kane, director of administration, was honored with the New England Water Works Association's State (Maine) Leadership Award.
