HEALTH • Spring 2018 13 { Local Innovation } Saint Vincent Hospital has a new system to aid surgeons in minimally-invasive procedures. Saint Vincent Hospital in March unveiled its new da Vinci Xi Surgical System, advancing its minimally- invasive surgery program. According to the Worcester hospital, the system represents the latest in surgical and robotic technology, and can be used in a variety of minimally-invasive procedures in the areas of gynecology; urology; oncology; cardiology; liver and galbladder; and general surgery. The surgeon is in total control of the da Vinci Xi system, which translates the doctor's hand movements into smaller, more precise movements using tiny instruments inside a patient's body. It provides surgeons a maginfied view using a 3D-HD vision system. Saint Vincent said it is the only Central Massachusetts hospital to offer the system.
