Mohegan Sun
expanding with
$80M convention
center
Mohegan Sun is planning to open
a new $80 million conference center
next summer to cater to convention
and meeting business.
The Expo Center expansion has
been authorized and is slated to
open in the summer of 2018 — just
in time for the Barrett-Jackson
Northeast 2018 car collector auc-
tion.
The total size of the expansion,
including the 131,000-square-foot
Expo Center, will be 240,000 gross
square feet, Mohegan Sun said.
XL Center slated
for $40M; headed
to sales block
Hartford's XL Center got mixed
treatment in the bipartisan budget
passed in the fall.
Lawmakers approved $40 million
in bonded funds to renovate the XL
Center, but the budget also requires
the city of Hartford to put the aging
building up for sale, or at least see if
there are interested bidders.
The goal would be to sell it to
a private developer. A request for
proposals must go out no later than
June 30, 2019.
