LARGEST IN-STATE BANKS (Ranked by deposits as of June 30,2017) Leadership change at CT's largest regional bank James C. Smith, only the second CEO in the history of Webster Fi- nancial, is retiring from the Water- bury lender his father founded, and will be succeeded by John R. Ciulla, effective New Year's Day 2018. Smith, who served as the parent holding company's CEO since 1987, will remain as nonexecutive chair- man of Webster Financial's board. People's United wraps Leaf deal Bridgeport lender People's United Bank this year acquired Leaf Com- mercial Capital Inc., a Philadelphia business-equipment financier. Under the deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, People's United acquired about $730 million of Leaf's net investment lease and retained about $250 million in secu- ritizations. United Bank moves 200 to downtown Hartford United Bank in 2017 relocated its headquarters and some 200 work- ers from Glastonbury to downtown Hartford's Goodwin Square office tower. Also, United plans to open a downtown Hartford branch in CityPlace II.
